How to find interesting books worth reading
Ask experts in the genres.
So if I’m looking for a good fantasy genre recommendation. I go to reddit, to the fantasy subreddit. And I scroll through all the book recommendations there.
When a book comes up a lot, I write it down. When I have a list of books that have come highly recommended. That show up in a lot of the best of style searches. I then go and google the books and just get a tiny sense of what they are about. I hate spoilers. I don’t want to read a summary. I just want to see if the briefest of elevator pitches gets me interested. I don’t always do this, out of fear of spoilers. Sometimes if I think I’m going to like it, I’ll just go get it and start reading.
I also like to check to see if it’s part of a series and if that series has been completed or not. I don’t want to get into a series and then find out it’s not done and probably won’t ever be done.
If the series is not done, but the author is actively still writing then I’ll risk it.
