how to stave off loneliness

Reach out to someone. Any time you think of someone, send a text. They don’t even have to respond for me to feel a little less lonely, a little more connected. And then if they do respond, even better.

In the past if I don’t reach out immediately, I won’t do it.

So now when I have a random thought, like I wonder what that guy is up to? Or damn that person lives right where the wild fires are near, I wonder if they are alright. Just drop everything and send them a quick text right in that moment.

It doesn’t have to go anywhere. It doesn’t have to be anything more than a simple back and forth.

I think for me staving off loneliness is done in small bite size pieces a little at a time. And it doesn’t take much for me. I prefer to be alone a lot of the time. So I don’t need a huge party with 100’s of people to feel connected. Some days all I need is a text. Other days I might need a phone call or two. But I won’t be able to call people as easily if I haven’t already laid some ground work by reaching out.
